About ip-pro

Where is the office located?

Within a one-minute walk of Esaka Station on the Osaka Metro. The building connects directly to the station via a covered walkway, so you can reach the office without getting wet on rainy days.

The building was constructed shortly after the Osaka Expo and has an atrium (an indoor garden), which was a novel feature at the time. Surrounded by plants, it is a pleasant place to come to work.

It also connects directly to Esaka Park via a walkway, which is ideal for a change of pace. The park has stylish cafes and restaurants for lunch, as well as a library where you can look things up between tasks. Every April the cherry blossoms come into full bloom, so you can enjoy them too.

You mention a flextime system. How freely can I work?

The core hours (when attendance is required) are from 10:00 to 16:00.

Do you offer remote work?

ip-pro has a remote work setup, but for health management and communication, staff come to the office at least twice a week. Some staff work mainly at the office — for example, coordinators, whose role involves a lot of communication with clients and team members, or those whose family circumstances call for it. Note: remote work is available only to those who have completed the training period after joining and have been assessed as having acquired the necessary security literacy.

Is there a lot of overtime?

Overtime is needed during busy periods, but we work to keep it from becoming the norm — when overtime continues, we review workload assignments and consider measures in a timely manner.

Tell me about the benefits.

Standard social insurance is fully provided (health insurance, employees' pension, employment insurance, and workers' accident insurance). Commuting costs are fully covered. You can also receive an annual health check at no cost (special examinations such as comprehensive medical checkups are available at a discounted rate). There is also a refresh leave program.

About applying

What does a coordinator do?

The coordinator is the point of contact for clients and arranges the staff in charge. Specifically, the role involves accurately grasping client requests and arranging the in-house staff to handle them. It spans a wide range of work: data processing, drafting workflows, exchanging data and information with clients, delivery, billing management, data management, and updating databases.

Do you hire new graduates?

Given the nature of the work, most hires are mid-career, experienced professionals, but depending on the timing we may also hire new graduates. When that is the case, we note it in the job opening.

I have translation experience but not in patent translation. Can I still apply?

Even without experience, if you have strong English and an aptitude for technical subjects, you may be able to work as a translator, so you are welcome to apply. We assess this through a language trial on technical content, so if you would like to take it, please apply first. Note that depending on the timing and field, openings are sometimes limited to experienced candidates only; we ask for your understanding in such cases. After being hired, you receive on-the-job translation guidance from senior translators.

I'm good at English but weak in science subjects. Can I still become a patent translator?

You may have found them difficult as school subjects, but if you are currently interested in some area of technology, you can build your knowledge from there over time. Your scope may gradually broaden beyond that technology into adjacent fields. If you feel interest and curiosity toward new technologies and products, there is a possibility for you.

How do checkers carry out their checks?

We recommend using the designated tools for checking. You first receive a brief explanation and then carry out actual checks. For the first several times, until you get used to it, we provide feedback on your checks.
